NBTY, a US-based manufacturer of nutritional supplements, has opened a $20m nutritional bar manufacturing plant in Amityville, New York.

NBTY noted that the facility will enable the company to meet the increasing demand for its nutritional bars.

Once fully operational, the 66,000ft2 facility will more than double the company's production to one million bars a day. It will produce the company's nutritional bars such as MET-Rx, Pure Protein and Good 'n Natural.

The construction of the facility, which began in 2011, expanded the existing smaller facility at Amityville. The new plant is expected to create more than 150 jobs, in addition to the existing 188 jobs.

NBTY is a manufacturer a range of nutritional supplements in the US and throughout the world. The company offers over 22,000 products under a number of NBTY and third party brands.
